Project Overview

This capital campaign supported the complete reconstruction of the Palliative Care Unit at Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare, which officially opened on September 27, 2013 as the 20-bed T2B Palliative Care Unit, The Stephanie and Barry Zekelman Wing. The refurbished space includes thoughtfully designed patient rooms, a family kitchen and lounge, reception area, nurse’s station, and spacious hallways enhanced with inspirational murals, wood flooring, woodwork, and warm wallpaper and paint colours.

Designed to bring the comforts of home into the hospital environment, the wing supports dignity and comfort at end of life through home-inspired design, calming materials, and family-centred spaces, creating peace, presence, and compassion during life’s most delicate moments for palliative patients and their families.
